In 1973 at the age of 17, Bob began his coaching career with the PMHA with the pee wee house league teams and then with the atom age teams. Bob was very proud of his players especially in 1977 when he was the winning coach of the West End Minor Atoms when they captured the championship during the Northside Community Club Tournament.
Shortly there after Bob’s coaching career came to an abrupt end when he was killed accidentally at work on June 16, 1977 at the age of 21.
The Wilson family knows if Bob were here today he would still be involved in coaching with the Portage Minor Hockey Association. He was a real asset to the community, always willing to lend a hand and he gave his best at what he did as a coach and as a player. He was a good role model showing true sportsmanship qualities. These qualities are being remembered by the Wilson Family in presenting the ”Bob Wilson Memorial Trophy “ each year to one player from the Portage Minor Hockey Pee Wee house league who has given their best and has shown good sportsmanship.
